Kinsale Bridge Club

A woman employed as a domestic was applying for a new position when asked why she left her previous job she told this story:

“They paid good wages, but it was the strangest place to work. I am a clean living person and those folks played a game called Bridge and one night they had a lot of people over to play”.

I was in the kitchen about to take our refreshments when I couldn’t help over hearing a man say “Lay down and lets see what you have”, and then another man said “I’ve got strength but no length”. Then another man said to a lady “Take your hand off my trick”.

And if that wasn’t bad enough I nearly fainted when I heard this lady say “You forced me, you jumped me twice when you didn’t even have the strength for one raise”. Another lady was going on about defending her honour, while two other ladies were talking and said “Now its time for me to play with your husband and you can play with mine”.

I know it was no place for me to be working and as I was getting on my coat to leave, I hope to die if one of them didn’t say
“Well I guess its time to go home – that was the last rubber”
